I agree with this. I try hard
I agree with this. I try hard to teach my students in a manner that works best for them. However, teaching 3rd grade, I can't help but worry about that reading test and hoping to the testing gods that they pass or meet one of the many exemptions so they don't get held back. It's ridiculous what they are doing to 8-9 year old children.

I agree with you 100%. I have followed this belief my entire teaching career. Other than teach students a few testing skills, such as working with writing prompts, I don't focus on any mandated tests. In fact, I work in guest speakers (you are invited anytime :) ), art project, and field trips and my students all passed the test. And we are a little school with not many electives or opportunities. If my kids can score okay without teaching to the test, all kids can.
