ummmm - I see where you're coming from, but...
Here's the deal. I get the use of the social contract. Locke’s updated version and Jefferson's remake a few years later do play a significant role that I do benefit from. But the morphing of amendments, rules and regulations can at times (not when we gave women the right to vote and black persons the right to be citizens and equal) get out of control.
Let's take your point on health control. While I would to like to decide who gets it and who does not...I would like to decide if I am under my own opinion and control can opt out of the healthcare "system" and opt into a MUCH cheaper cash option. I personally believe that health insurance is a racket...especially when it comes to my rarely sick family. Last year, I lackadaisically forgot to change over insurance. My bad...but IMO, we had paid premiums for two years and never so much as had a sniffle. The next year the Insurance company wanted to up our premiums by $500 per month because the cost of insurance was going up?
I have a pretty unique perspective as having been without the insurance and fined last year. Insurance is "in the case of" catastrophic events...I actually did have a pretty intense back pain at the end of last year and needed to go to the ER. As a cash customer I paid $700 for that visit. and then needed an MRI which I paid $481 out of pocket. My friend WITH INSURANCE had a similar issue with a toe and not a back and had nearly identical visits. Her bills totaled $2400 for the trip to the ER and $1600 for the MRI. What??? With the insurance the Dr's are charging two patients for the same service completely different amounts - Asinine amounts.
I was fined by the govt at the end of the year for not carrying adequate insurance, but I still paid less than she paid with per premiums and co-pays combined. But are they charging the super poor for not carrying insurance? NO!!! They are giving it to them for free.
I am writing a follow up post, but the inequity of rights of the different class systems is mind boggling to me.
