Thanks for this.
Thank you for this sound reasoning with real heart. These are hard times and our emotions seem to be running on overdrive. Your post brings some needed clarity and comfort to those of us who find ourselves reeling from one bad news cycle to the next with a lacking sense of wholeness. We're split. We know how we're supposed to feel about this or that action because of the identities we claim and the positions we hold. As a result many of our responses are knee-jerk outrage, not necessarily misplaced but not always carefully reflected upon. We are not typically looking at or even *for* the source of our stated belief and the responses it may generate.
You do us that favor of reminding us how we came to such a response. That our deeply held values are being tested and challenged at nearly every political turn. It is exactly about us, not them.
"We can make hard choices without becoming hard people. " That sentence captures more than most think pieces. We are groping for elements which will steady us and allow us to stand firm. Revisiting our ideas about who we *want* to be is an excellent starting point.
