spot on
It seems to me that we are absolutely stuck in the late 1800's or early 1900's with our public education system. It is full of people who want to make a difference. People who truly care about students. People who want to be a positive influence on the next generation. Yet is seems that we (the teachers) are unwilling to move past some of our own issues and shoot ourselves in the foot. It also has become difficult as it seems that every policy that comes from our government places another layer of shackles on the straight jacket they have put on public education.

Not to go rogue or off topic - but if some of our elected leaders in the house are so enamored with the amazing things that charter schools and private schools are doing - why can they not free up the public schools to do some of those same things. We need all of these different systems (public, private, and charter) to work together - and they can - but sheesh.....

Typical, Sadly...
It's the same story all too many places too many times: Either or both of the following always stand in the way, probably both! There is absolutely no place for common sense - especially in government situations. And there is absolutely no understanding of the cost to government (and thus to all of us via taxes) because of all the precaution that supposedly saves money!!! There is no rational explanation why this continues...
